A solitaire diamond is one single diamond of a large size like 0.50 carats or 1.0 carats each. A certificate is for EACH diamond, and FOR the diamond, and NOT for the product in which it is in. Meaning to say, if for example, a diamond ring with a solitaire diamond in it, the certificate is for the diamond only, its not for the ring AND the diamond. So, if a necklace or pendant or earring or any other item that has a lot of small diamonds in it, for example 50 or 100 diamonds in it, it is not practical or cost effective to have 50 or 100 certificates issued because, a certificate is issued for EACH diamond and it costs extra to get a certificate. The same also applies when you buy an item which has very very small diamonds in it, it may have just 1 very small diamond in it, or 5 very small diamonds in it, if you get a certificate for each of those small diamonds in it, then its quite possible that the cost of the certificate will be more than the cost of the diamond itself.
